Small Grants for Research
GRI Small Grants Program resumes acceptance of new applications for funding
The Small Grants Program of the GRI has resumed acceptance of new applications for funding. Applicants should be aware, however, that end-of-year accounting considerations of the University call for all expenditures to be made and documentation submitted no later than September 14, 2007.
Up to $2,500 for students; $5,000 for faculty and staff.
The Mini-Grant
The Mini-Grant is an additional category of Small Grant intended to streamline the application and review process. The funding limit for a Mini-Grant is $750 for student applications and $1,000 for all other applications. The proposal narrative that accompanies a Mini-Grant application is limited to two double-spaced pages, instead of the six-page limit for a conventional Small Grants proposal narrative. All other elements of a Mini-Grant application are the same as one for a conventional Small Grant: a completed application form with signatures, a 100-word project summary, and a budget statement. In their proposal narratives, applicants should address the same three review criteria described in the brochure of the Small Grants program, as well as on this web site. These pertain to the clarity of the research purpose, the significance of that purpose, and the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.
A flexible review process at the discretion of the Small Grants Program Officer will expedite completion of application review. Any revisions requested in the two-page proposal narrative or project summary will normally be for the purpose of clarifying the project rather than making substantive changes in the research purpose or methodology. For student applications, the faculty advisor and/or committee is considered to have primary responsibility for ensuring the quality of the research. The submission deadlines for Mini-Grant applications are the same as those for conventional Small Grant applications, provided that funds remain.
