An Exploration of the Postsecondary Life Experiences of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Graduates of Three Schools
| Status: Ongoing | Begin date: February 10, 1999 | End date: December 31, 2005 |
Description
Gallaudet's Model Secondary School for the Deaf, the Illinois School for the Deaf, and South Hills High School in West Covina, California are collaborating in a study to explore postsecondary transition issues from the graduate's perspective. Selected graduates from each of the three programs have been interviewed about their life experiences since graduation in three interview cycles about 18 months apart. The interviews elicited information about education, employment, living arrangements, family and peer relationships, and leisure activities. In addition, each graduate completed a brief paper and pencil questionnaire (Chronological Map) requesting changes in education, work experiences and living arrangements in three month increments for the periods of time between interviews. To date, all data has been collected and in 2005, analysis and report writing continued.
