| Status: Ongoing | Begin date: September 1, 2003 | End date: August 31, 2007 |
Description
This project is designed to assess the impact of testing for genes for deafness on the Deaf community and hearing parents of deaf and hard of hearing children. The first goal is to conduct focus groups and perform a survey of these groups to determine the attitudes and concerns related to genetics technologies and advances in the identification of genes for deafness. A second goal is to assess the impact of genetic testing on deaf couples by measuring its influence on selection of a marriage partner.
