Consumer Survey for DecisionMaker: A Student-Directed Transition Program

Description

DecisionMaker: A Student-Directed Transition Program, developed and successfully marketed by the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center since 2002, is an instructional program developed for use with high school age deaf and hard of hearing students. Its materials are designed to facilitate the students' learning about themselves, taking responsibility for their decisions and the process of decision-making as it applies to their everyday and long-range life decisions. Developing and disseminating the Consumer Survey for DecisionMaker fulfills the Clerc Center's responsibility to evaluate the outcomes of its products and services. In FY04, the Clerc Center developed the Consumer Survey for DecisionMaker in order to learn the following: (1) verification that the DecisionMaker materials purchased from the Clerc Center are being used with students and in what kinds of programs; (2) description of the professionals and classes using DecisionMaker; (3) explanation of the reasons why professionals who reviewed DecisionMaker materials purchased for their program decided not to use them with their students and a description of these students; (4) identification of a group of professionals using or planning to use DecisionMaker with their students who are interested in participating in future Clerc Center plans to evaluate DecisionMaker.
 
On September 2, 2004, the sixty-four (64) programs which have purchased DecisionMaker as of June, 2004 were each sent Consumer Surveys. In September 2005, Clerc Center sent consumer surveys to the programs that purchased DecisionMaker between June, 2004 and June, 2005. It is planned to repeat this distribution of Consumer Surveys with one additional group of purchasers, analyze data, and report Consumer Survey results in fall, 2006.
