Identifying Critical Needs Through Public Input

Status: Ongoing Begin date: Jan 2003 End date: Sept 2006

Description

The Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center is charged by the United States Congress with developing, evaluating, and disseminating innovative curricula and materials and instructional strategies that can be used by programs serving deaf and hard of hearing children and their families. In carrying out this mandate, the Clerc Center is required by Congress to "establish and publish priorities for research, development, and demonstration through a process that allows for public input" (Education of the Deaf Act Amendments of 1992). The primary goal of the project "Identifying Critical Needs Through Public Input" is to assure transparency in the process of public input in the shaping of Clerc Center's development and dissemination priorities.

In FY 2005, the responses from the critical needs survey were analyzed and reported to the Clerc Center's National Advisory Panel for their review and comment. The preliminary report will be shared with additional external groups for review and comment in FY 2006.
