| Status: Ongoing | Begin date: June 1, 2005 | End date: June 1, 2007 |
Description
This study is being conducted to investigate management of the education of blind students in Nigerian public schools. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, the researcher seeks perceptions of the key educational policymakers through a pre-structured interview regarding the current policies and practices for blind education management and preparation of blind and visually impaired students for the world of work. The researcher also seeks perceptions of school principals and teachers through a survey instrument. The study provides a body of knowledge to those individuals who are currently involved in making decisions concerning the obstacles facing the blind population in Nigerian public schools. The research questions and the research hypotheses will be examined through the use of appropriate quantitative methods for scaleable data as well as qualitative procedures for non-scaleable data. General conclusions will be drawn from analyses and interpretation of the significant findings of the study. Based on the study findings, a number of recommendations will be made to the Nigerian Ministry of Education policymakers, school principals, and school teachers. Suggestions for further research will be made to future researchers who might be interested in conducting studies related to the issue of blind education management. Data collection is now in progress.
