Deaf Cartoons: The Creation and Analysis of Cartoons About, For, and By Deaf and Hearing People

Description
This project will result in a book in which a collection of approximately 300 Deaf cartoons that will be grouped in five main subject areas: 1) Language and Linguistics, 2) Politics, 3) Society and Animals, 4) Inability to Hear (and other common Deaf themes), and 5) Interpreters. The book will include an historical overview of Deaf cartoons, the perspectives of cartoonists, and information on the artists' backgrounds. The book is expected to be of interest to Deaf, hard of hearing, hearing, ASL users, interpreters, teachers of the Deaf, ASL teachers, Deaf Studies teachers, reading teachers, history teachers, storytellers, jokesters, and avid cartoon readers.
