Final Report for the Kenyan Government: A Survey of the Development Assistance Desired by Deaf Kenyans
| Status: Completed | Begin date: May, 2004 | End date: August, 2005 |
Description
In order for Deaf people in developing countries to reach their full potential, they must have the opportunity to voice their needs and desires to Christian church groups and development organizations from other countries who offer the Deaf community material, spiritual, or financial assistance. Deaf Kenyans representing various groups were given the opportunity to voice the kind of overseas development assistance they desired and how this assistance would be provided, in order for this information to be used to help guide the Deaf community and foreign and domestic development organizations and churches in improving the lives of Deaf people in Kenya. Seventy five Deaf Kenyans were interviewed through Kenyan Sign Language from various regions around Kenya. The findings are being used as a starting point for dialogue between Kenyan and foreign Deaf organizations as well as to inform development organizations what Deaf Kenyans perceive as significant in empowering their community.
