Reflective Journal Writing: Deaf Pre-Service Teachers with Hearing Children
| Status: Ongoing | Begin date: October 1, 2005 | End date: No set date |
Description
In this study, the content of reflective journals of Deaf pre-service teachers during student teaching in a classroom with hearing students has been examined. Journal entries were analyzed and compared to the established literature on student teaching. It was found that these student teachers focused on many of the same issues that had been mentioned in the literature on reflective teaching; they often did so by incorporating key elements of Deaf culture. Unlike most student teachers, this cohort placed a primary emphasis on pedagogy, but with a visual emphasis. Implications of the socio-cultural perspectives in teacher education programs are discussed in the researchers' analyses.
