HOW TO update information about
your research, scholarship and creative achievements

DUE BY September 30th

Gallaudet's Annual Report of Achievement (ARA) is a mandated report about our university's operations and outcomes. To present our collective momentum, it is essential that you report on your achievements during the past year. We need your quick response as ARA is a massive undertaking on a strict deadline.

Below are instructions for reporting both on your Research and Scholarly & Creative achievements during October 1, 2011 to September 30, 2012 (FY 12).

For products resulting from research projects, scholarship or creative achievements, please try to cite your work in APA format. A good general guide to APA style can be found at:

http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/

For more detailed information regarding the proper way to format your citations, see:

http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/05/

Return all forms by email to gri.grants@gallaudet.edu or Dawes House 206.

TIP! "Achievement" means your Research Projects (and products) AND Scholarly and Creative products not associated with a research project. While Products include publications & presentations, the form allows you to choose other non-traditional types. Work in progress or ongoing effort, including papers and grant proposals submitted but pending an outcome, are not considered achievement here. Please re-submit in the year that your effort produces successful results.

I. how to report on your research activity

If your study is under a research center — VL2, BL2, TAP, RERC-HE or GRI (you got Priority Research or Small Research grant) — contact that Center to ensure that your research is being reported accurately in the ARA.

If students have played a substantial role in your research, scholarly or creative achievements, include their names. Students with completed dissertations or who recv'd grant funding will be contacted separately.

Update last year's info for your continuing research project(s):

  1. Find your projects By Investigator at http://research.gallaudet.edu/ara/

This is how your project was reported for fiscal year 2011.

    1. If your name is not shown or the project is not listed under your name, look for the project
by Department or by Priority. A project or individual's name may have been unreported.

  2. Download the "Research Project" form and enter only changed info.
    http://research.gallaudet.edu/ara_forms/Research_Project_Form.docx

  3. Was the research project ongoing during FY 12 (Oct. 1, 2011 - Sept. 30, 2012)?

    1. If "no", then check "INACTIVE" and return form to gri.grants@gallaudet.edu

    2. If the study is still active, then update the info about your projects for FY12:

      • Is the End Date accurate?

Projects with end dates prior to October 1, 2011 will be considered
done and will not be shown in the upcoming ARA
        .

      • Any change in Project Description, Investigators, etc.?

      • During FY 12, do any publications, presentations or other products?

Add a new research project

If your research project began after October 1, 2011, entirely fill out the "Research Project" form at http://research.gallaudet.edu/ara_forms/Research_Project_Form.docx

CLICK HERE for Tips on Writing a Scientific Abstract. Put no citations in your Description/Abstract. Avoid formatting for ease of transfer to database. If you do not create a new project profile, the project will not appear in the report.

II. how to report on your scholarship & creative achievements

This is where you should report your scholarly and creative achievements that are not directly derived from your own research study. Report whatever is a substantial achievement within your discipline. For consistency, we are asking you to provide as an academic citation (APA) although we understand that this format may not fit all scholarly and creative achievements.

If a research activity, use the Research Project form.

  1. Download the short "Scholarship & Creative Achievements" form and complete it.
    http://research.gallaudet.edu/ara_forms/Scholarship_Creative_Form.docx

Direct any questions to gri.grants@gallaudet.edu

By September 30, please return all forms by email to gri.grants@gallaudet.edu or Dawes House 206.

By Oct. 15, FY12 updates & FY11 archive, will be viewable at http://research.gallaudet.edu/ara/

While the new database of "Research & Scholarship at Gallaudet" will contain all achievements received year by year, and will always be available to you and Gallaudet's constituencies, the printed ARA report may be more limited in scope and length. See database at http://research.gallaudet.edu/ara.

If you are a director of a research center (VL², BL²,RERC-HE, RERC-TA, TAP, GRI) fill out ONE research center form describing the center.

DISCLAIMER: This website contains documents with terms that may be considered by today's reader as outdated and even offensive. For example, the term "hearing impairment" is sometimes used as a category for levels of hearing loss, such as hard of hearing and deaf. Some people now see cultural identification and communication preference as defining characteristics behind terms such as hard of hearing and deaf, and they do not favor terms conveying medical distinctions and loss. Yet we recognize that removing and changing terms may alter the precise meaning of the scientific author. A solution may be found by expanding the scope of future research to include non-medical perspectives.
